Guide: How to Download and Install the ClioFlow Backup Zendesk to AWS App

Backup Zendesk to AWS

The ClioFlow Backup app helps you securely export and store your Zendesk data in your AWS environment. Because it is delivered as a custom Zendesk app, you need to download the package directly from our website and then install it manually.
To make the process smooth, this guide explains each step clearly and shows you what to do next at every stage.

1. Download the ClioFlow Backup App

To begin, download the latest version of the ClioFlow Backup app.

  1. First, visit the ClioFlow download page.
  2. Next, click Download App to save the ClioFlow Backup ZIP file.
  3. Finally, keep the file in its ZIP format, since Zendesk requires the unmodified archive for installation.

Once you have the ZIP file ready, you can continue with the Zendesk preparation steps.

2. Prepare Your Zendesk Account

Before you upload the app, you must ensure your Zendesk account is ready. Therefore, verify that you have the correct permissions and that private app uploading is enabled.

You need:

  • Zendesk Admin rights
  • Private app development / App sideloading switched on

How to Enable App Sideloading

Follow these steps to enable sideloading:

  1. First, open the Zendesk Admin Center.
  2. Then, navigate to Apps and Integrations → Apps → Zendesk Support apps.
  3. After that, open Settings.
  4. Finally, toggle Private app development (or Enable app sideloading) to ON.

If you cannot find this option, contact your Zendesk representative, because some accounts require manual activation.
Once sideloading is enabled, you can proceed with uploading the app.

3. Upload the ClioFlow Backup App

At this point, you are ready to upload the custom app.

  1. Go to Apps and Integrations → Apps → Zendesk Support apps.
  2. Next, click Upload private app.
  3. Then, choose the ClioFlow Backup.zip file you downloaded.
  4. If Zendesk prompts you for an app name, enter it.
  5. Finally, click Upload to start the installation.

Here is the guidance from Zendesk as well. Zendesk immediately checks the package and, if everything looks correct, displays the configuration screen.

4. Configure the App Settings

After uploading the app, you can configure it so it works properly inside your workspace.
During this step, you can:

  • Select which roles should access the app
  • Decide whether to restrict access to specific groups

When everything looks correct, click Install to activate the app.
After installation, you can verify that everything runs as expected and start Backup Zendesk to AWS.

5. Verify the Installation

To confirm that the app installed correctly:

  • Open a Zendesk ticket or navigate to the app’s location
  • Check whether the ClioFlow Backup panel loads without errors
  • Test the AWS configuration to ensure everything connects properly

If something does not load, first review the app’s role or group restrictions. Additionally, you can check the browser console for any error messages.
With these checks, you can usually resolve issues quickly.
